Last Sunday, Pastor Scott spoke to us about the light that Jesus brings, and that he dwelt among us and revealed to us who God really is. This is good news to our souls and the more we think about this and mediate on it, the more we will have joy in our lives. God bring us into deeper joy when we really begin to understand what he has done for us.
Scott left us with four practical thoughts to live out this concept even in the busyness of the Christmas season:
Be wary of things that dull your mind. This can be social media, tv, shopping, video games, parties, etc. While these are not necessarily bad things, they should be done in moderation. If we are filling our minds with shallow things, there is little room left for deep, spiritual thoughts.
Guard your heart from sin. Temptations abound in this season. The problem with sin isn't that we can't be forgiven, it's that it has an effect on our heart, causing us to feel hard-hearted and distant from God.
If you are already feeling dull and distant from God, take time right now to address your heart with God. Run into his arms, confess your sins, and he is faithful to forgive you and cleanse you. You don't have to do anything to get right with God, just be honest and ask for forgiveness.
Focus on Christ. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it requires us putting in some effort. It's very easy to drift away from God; do nothing. We have to choose to make spending time with God a priority. We have to fight to keep Christ number one in our lives.
