Christmas is upon us and, if we are honest, even as followers of Christ, we sometimes struggle to be excited about the season. The shopping malls, parties, advertisements and extra responsibilities threaten to dull our minds from being captivated by the wonder of Christ's birth. I am praying for us this year that we would be awakened to the glory of the birth of Christ and that we would ascend the heights of joyful worship.
I'll be doing 3 simple messages in December answering the question, "what's so great about Christmas?" Each week we will focus on specific things that Jesus Christ gave to the world as we explore the classic Christmas narratives. Week one we will discuss the angelic visit to Zechariah and revel in how Christ gives light to those in darkness. Week two we will discuss the story of the shepherds and revel in how Christ gives us salvation. Week three we will discuss the wise kings and revel in the everlasting kingdom that Christ set in motion for all peoples.
My sincere aim is to stir each of us toward a sense of awe of who Jesus Christ is and what he has brought to this world. I'm praying for outpourings of joy and deep worship experiences!
As I say every year, Christmas is not a happy season for many people. All the festivity actually has an adverse effect on some and causes them to feel lonely, empty and depressed. Be sensitive to those around you. Invite them to join us Sundays or at our Christmas Eve service (Dec 24th 6-7pm). A person's life can be dramatically changed in the house of God. They can encounter God's love and hear His voice in a way that might raise them out of the Christmas blues and into the joys of His presence.
