My Day in Court

Went to court to see about getting a traffic violation reduced. I was ready to claim “guilty with an explanation.” I felt I was responsible but did have a reasonably persuasive excuse for my blunder. There were about 200 people in the room from every nationality. The judge was an older and rather cynical apathetic white man who did not really listen to anyone’s explanation and even at times mocked people. I waited about 2 hours before it was my turn to approach the judge. I rehearsed over and over in my mind what I would say. I was nervous. With my heart pounding madly I reverently came toward the judge but all I could squeeze out was, “guilty your honor”. He cut my fine in half but my pride was shredded to nothing.

I could not help but to think of the great day of eternal judgement when every human being from every tribe and every nation and every generation shall stand before the blinding holiness of King Jesus. There will be multiplied billions present. The Judge will not need to hear any explanations because He knows all things. He knows even the secret things, the motives and the intents of the heart. He knows what each have done, every moment, from birth to death.

If our hearts pound before a local judge for a traffic violation what will it be like before the Eternal God?
