“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
INTRO: Welcome to room #8 “Light adorns”. Light not only exposes things, but if used skillfully, it can adorn a beautiful space. Radiant beams, shimmering reflections, twinkling sparks of brilliant light fill a space and transform it. Light creates a stunning, ever-changing display of beauty, calling us to rest and enjoy. Linger in this space, and think of an eternal place dressed beautifully in light.
WHAT IT MEANS: This quality of light adorning things is a great reminder of what Scripture tells us about the future city of God. In Rev 21-22 a portrait is painted of a glorious city of redeemed souls. It is described as a place with no more pain, no more sorrow, no more death. A place where there is no more need of sun and moon because the Lord God illuminates everything! Can you imagine a city illuminated by God himself who is everywhere present (omnipresent)? Revelation 22:5 says that we shall see his face. The day will come for those who are in Christ that they will dwell freely in the presence of this Eternal God of Light without fear. They will be home. They will be reflections of God. They “shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.” (Daniel 12:3) In contrast, the Bible describes the place where people go, who reject the Gospel, as “outer darkness”. God had set before us eternal light or eternal darkness and says to us, Come to the light!
PRAYER: Oh God, this quality of light adorning makes me think about the eternal city of light waiting for those who love you. Home. Heaven. Your Word describes a city adorned not with the light of the sun and moon but with the light of God. A place with no more pain, no more sorrow, no more death. Where the light of God is always present everywhere. Those who live in this glorious city will see your face, and its brightness will shine on them forever. All their darkness will be dispelled, and they will shine like the stars. I bow before You, Lord of Light, and I will worship and adore You forever and ever. Help me to be a shining reflection of Your Light here and through eternity!
