The weather conditions predicted for tonight and tomorrow are serious enough that it seems best to cancel service on February 9. Who doesn’t like a snow day? As much as we all love church, I think we all appreciate staying in our warm dwelling places drinking hot beverages with a good book or whatever. So that’s the plan. Stay home tomorrow. Enjoy the relaxed morning.
You may wonder what reasons lead us to making a decision like this. For those of us (like my wife and I) who have lived in parts of the country that get a lot more snow, we might find it not a big deal to power through. Many of us have 4x4 vehicles that make it easy—and even fun!—to drive around in snowy weather. But many in our church community are not comfortable driving in a snowstorm. And we could probably argue it’s not really wise for any of us to be on slippery roads. As a pastor, I feel a sense of responsibility for the safety of the community. One thing you may not realize is how many volunteers come early to the church space to prepare. The worship team, particularly, arrives at about 7:30! And Ren volunteers are coming from all over: Attleboro, Fall River, Warwick, and so on. So, again, it’s a wise decision to let everyone stay home and stay safe.
I’ll leave you with a question to ponder on your snowy Sunday morning shut in: When you stand before God one day after you pass, what is one quality that you’ll look back on and be glad you cultivated?
